Session

To book a session, please contact me by phone or e-mail with your requested date/time. My schedule is flexible but busy, so planning ahead is important, particularly in the Spring and Fall. I schedule sessions in the morning or late afternoon/evening for lighting purposes, but exact times will depend on location and time of year. When we have chosen a date your session fee will reserve that time for you. I will send you a contract and invoice by email.

Sometime shortly before our session we will have a phone consultation during which we can discuss expectations, answer questions, and get to know each other a little. When working with children I also like to get a little information beforehand about their personality, interests, dislikes, etc. This background helps me connect more quickly at our session together.

Our session will take place wherever you choose. I shoot on location so I will meet you at a local park, your own back yard, an urban setting, etc. I believe natural light creates the most beautiful portraits and I enjoy the adventure of shooting in new locations or introducing you to some of my favorite stomping grounds. I live in Hillsborough and I can travel to meet you anywhere in the Triangle area. If the weather does not cooperate for our scheduled session I will contact you and happily reschedule for a better time or place.

Although I know there is some work involved in getting yourselves (and especially your children!) to the session, once on location with me you can expect to relax, play, and have fun. I genuinely enjoy developing a relationship with clients of all ages and I will do my best to quickly put you at ease. I am comfortable with children of all ages and I am happy to make a fool of myself to evoke laughter or work tenderly to engage a shy child. On location I advise parents to hang back a bit and let me gently guide the experience because it almost always works best that way.

People often ask about what to wear to a session. My advice is that above all you should choose something that makes you and/or your children feel comfortable. For authentic photos I want to capture you as yourself, so please choose clothing accordingly. I do recommend that you avoid busy prints, patterns, and/or logos that can distract from faces. You may choose casual or formal clothing depending on your own style or bring several outfits so I can help you decide. We will also have plenty of time for outfit changes during your session. For family groups please do not try to match. Rather, choose solid colors that are well coordinated. You may bring a child's favorite accessory (hats, boots, jacket, etc.) to create a playful shot, or an special item that will make your child feel comfortable and create a fond memory of this time (i.e. a teddy bear, blanket, etc.)

After your session I will send you a handfull of photos as soon as possible (probably the next day). I know how hard it is to wait, so I will work to process your photos as quickly as I can. I will edit and upload all of your photos within two weeks of your shoot and then give you a password to view them in a secure gallery on my website. I will typically choose and edit 25-40 images for your proof gallery and these will be a mixture of color and black & white (unless you prefer one or the other). Your gallery will be online for 3 weeks during which time you may select prints and other products for your initial purchase. I will then archive your photos but I can make them available for additional orders at any time for a minor re-uploading fee.

I am passionate about delivering images that you will cherish. I guarantee your satisfaction with the promise of re-shooting or re-printing if necessary. I also greatly appreciate your recommendation: refer a friend and receive free print(s).
