I have always been somewhat nostalgic and inclined to run around snapping a lot of pictures–trying to capture each special moment with my own family or friends. Since becoming a mother I am ever more keenly aware of how quickly time flies and how important it is to document life through photography. I love the opportunity to create authentic images that enable others to cherish the fleeting moments of their own lives. To me, this is the magic of photography.

I describe my photography as lifestyle portraiture because my goal is to capture real expressions, emotions, moments, and memories. My style is contemporary because I photograph subjects in natural poses or while moving and/or from interesting camera angles. I shoot on location, preferably outdoors, to take advantage of natural light. My sessions are relaxed and easy-going. I truly enjoy getting to know my clients and taking the time to make them comfortable in front of my lens. Especially when working with children I keep the mood light and playful because this generates the most genuine laughter and smiles. I do not ask children to do a lot of unnatural posing, sitting still, or saying “cheese,” and I am happy to wait out a toddler’s meltdown (or two).

In addition to photography I am a teacher. I have both my bachelors and masters degrees in art history and a second degree in art education. I teach preschool, ceramics, and I have taught art and art history to children of all ages as well as adults. I have also coached middle and high school athletes. This experience working with children (and their grown-ups)–plus being a mother myself–makes me comfortable and excited about photographing subjects of any age. My aesthetic sense and knowledge of composition come primarily from my study of art history and my studio art courses in drawing, painting, and design. I enjoy putting this background to use behind the camera.

It is my intention as a photographer to create beautiful images that capture the true and unique nature of people and their relationships with each other. Thank you for visiting my site and I would welcome the opportunitiy to work with you.
